I have been a paid on call firefighter since 1981. With 3 years seniority I was appointed
secretary of the department The chief told me that one of my responsibilities was to do reports
on our incidents. That didn't seem too difficult until I did the first few. There were so many
codes to look up I couldn't believe it. I wrote a Pascal program to help with the input and to
actually send the reports to the State of Michigan with a modem ! (this was a
long time ago). Recently I decided that I wanted something more robust and decided to redo the
entire thing in Microsoft Access. The project took about 15 months to complete. My fire
department has been using my database for our reports since summer of 2010. I like having all
our data in house. I can do whatever kind of report needed with ease. Take a look at my program
and give it a try. You have nothing to lose.
The State of Michigan (and possibly other states as well) will provide software you can use but all the data is online. KruppFire will allow you to have all your data in your own computer. This is very handy when you want some information quickly or on a regular basis. It also is not subject to downtime for system maintenance.
